 Candidate Biography
Mark Hoopes_2019 Board Candidate

Mark Hoopes

As a former gifted student, with three gifted children at Stargate, my main interest in serving is to see a solid program continue to thrive. I grew up in Salt Lake City and participated in gifted programs there from elementary through high school. I stayed local for college, earning a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Utah. My wife and I have been married for nearly 20 years, living in Colorado for 14 years, with a six year stay in North Carolina in the middle of that time. Professionally I’ve worked in many aspects of enterprise information technology, including 10 years as a project manager. For the last six years I’ve been a security consultant specializing in websites and mobile applications, often for government agencies and large financial institutions. Three years ago I shifted to a half-time schedule allowing me to focus on our kids. From a volunteer perspective, I’ve been a Boy Scout leader off and on for a total of about fifteen years and have worked with my church’s youth programs for at least that long. I’m also an active member of Denhac, a local non-profit maker/hackerspace and served as treasurer for a little more than two years.
Lisa Hosfelt Board Candidate 2019

Lisa Hosfelt

I have served on the Governance Board since November.  During this brief time, I have participated in the charter renewal process, the hiring of our new Executive Director, extensive training, State of the School planning, and several other Board duties. Prior to this, I served on the School Accountability for four years, acting as co-chair for over a year and secretary for the previous two years.  While on SAC, I made many changes and improvements to further align the committee with its purposes as outlined by the state. These changes included: resuming KPI reporting with an updated format and procedure; initiating a training process for all members; drafting a detailed timeline of processes to allow smoother transitions for new members; employing a more useful system of delegation; beginning a more circular process of recommendations follow-up; and implementing new methods that allow more useful analysis of survey results. I graduated from Brigham Young University and worked in the finance industry for several years prior to staying home with my kids full time.  I have three children at Stargate, and one future Eagle in preschool.
Trace Nicks_2019 Board Candidate
Traci Nicks

My name is Traci Nicks.  My girls have attended Stargate since the fall of 2016. I have had kids in the elementary, middle, and high school programs at Stargate. Over the course of the past 3 school years, I have seen Stargate go through many ups and downs as we have navigated opening the new campus, expansion of the number of overall students served, and how to best serve special populations. I come to this position with over 20 years of public education experience. I have a bachelor's degree in special education teaching, a master's degree in culturally and linguistically diverse education, and my special education director's license. This most recent school year, I have been supporting solely charter schools. I am a member of the League of Charter Schools and am currently on a metro area task force to help improve special education services in charter schools that is an offshoot of the League. Serving special populations (504, special education, second language learners, lower income students, and GT) has been a passion of mine throughout my education career.
Lori Schreiber_2019 Board Candidate
Lori Schreiber

My name is Lori Schreiber. I’ve been married for 22 years to my husband Todd. We have our daughter Faith, a 5th grader in Ms. Buck’s class, and Meatball and Miles who come to school almost every day. I grew up all over the west coast from California to Alaska. I graduated from California State Hayward (now Cal State East Bay) with a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication with an emphasis in Interpersonal Communication. I worked for The Denver Hospice for nearly 20 years, starting in the bereavement department and ending as the Health Information Manager. I left hospice in 2016 to work from home for a family owned business that sells health and beauty products to be able to spend more time at home with my daughter. I am responsible for most of the day to day operations. Since I have been able to be more involved at Stargate, I would like the opportunity to serve on the Board. I am a level-headed person, who wants this school to be the very best that it can be.
