News from the Board:
"In case you missed it": The Board met on April 16th for its regular monthly business meeting. During the meeting the Board met the buyer's representative that will be negotiating on behalf of the school for the new high school, including design and location of the building; discussed the Accountability Committee's tool to be used in its annual evaluation of the Board and tied it to the Colorado Department of Education tools used in the Board self evaluation, principal evaluation, and staff evaluations; discussed the new Community Relations webpage; reviewed and approved the election budget for the spring election; reviewed and approved the district format of the 2014-2015 school budget; discussed methods for encouraging full community support in fundraising and volunteering efforts; completed the first review of the New Board Member Orientation Policy; discussed ways to engage more community involvement in the State of the School (full presentation can be found HERE); and reviewed recommendations from the Accountability Committee based on the community survey. The primary responsibilities of the Governance Board of Directors are to: determine the character of the school and uphold the School's mission; create a strategic vision and plan; establish overall policy; assure financial stability; institute and promote fundraising; and ensure that the school has appropriate resources to effectively implement the strategic plan and execute the day-to-day school operations. Voting instructions have been distributed through Monday folders
and/or middle school teachers; each ballot instruction is unique and
contains the information you need to vote. Go to https://stargate.simplyvoting.com/ and use your ballot instructions to vote. There are two parent candidates running for 1 open seat (this is a 3 year term): Debbie Christensen and Kristen Kelly. You can find out more about the candidates, including candidate bios and photos, responses to candidate questions, and candidate email information by visiting the Election Page of the Stargate School Governance Website at: http://charter.stargateschool.org/elections.
