News from the Board: "In case you missed it": The Board met on August 26th for a regular business meeting where they reviewed and approved the admissions policies for K-8 and the High School for the 2016-2017 school year; discussed the expansion project status; identified the need for Accountability Committee members (2 parents and 2 staff open seats) and Recruiting Committee members (4 parents and 3 staff open seats) and agreed to add a question to the fall election ballot on Bylaws approval; discussed methods for increasing participation in elections/voting; discussed options for attracting grants; approved funding for the spring Gala Fundraiser; reviewed and approved the Executive Director's goals for the school year; Assigned committee charter updates to each board member to be reviewed at the strategic planning session on September 25; and planned the communication to Stakeholders at Curriculum nights on September 8-9. Upcoming Board Meetings: September 8-9: Meet the Board at Curriculum Night for a Stakeholders Presentation September 25th: Strategic Planning Session (details tbd) *Note that the September Board Meeting has been canceled October 21st: Business Meeting at 6:30 PM at Stargate Stargate Governance 101: Are Board meetings open to the public? Yes! All Board meetings are open to the public. The Board generally meets once per month at the school for regular business meetings. The full meeting schedule for the 2015-2016 school year is posted on the bulletin board in front of the school and on the governance web page. The agendas are always posted on the governance website before the meeting and minutes from those meetings are posted as soon as they are approved. If you have a question for the board, please send an email to governance@stargateschool.org. Fall Elections: The proposed changes to the Bylaws were not accepted because the minimum number of required votes was not achieved. You'll get another opportunity to vote during the fall elections. The Board will be available to answer questions during Curriculum Night or you can send them to governance@stargateschool.org. Your voice is critical for this vote. Call for Volunteers: There are a lot of opportunities to get involved with governance of the school. The Accountability Committee and the Recruiting Committee will have elections in September to fill several open seats. The Accountability Committee is made up of parents and staff who provide support to the Board through surveys of the community and reviewing the Unified Improvement Plan for submission to the District. The Recruiting Committee helps find volunteers for committees and the Board. These are great opportunities to get experience in committees at Stargate. Nominations are currently open and will close September 11th. Voting will occur September 21-25. Online applications are on the Election Website.
