News from the Board: It’s hard to believe the school year is at its end. A big thank you to all of our committee leads, members, parent volunteers and our amazing administration, teachers, staff and most of all, our students. We wish our 8th graders the best of luck as they move on to their next chapter! It’s been a year of growth with a focus on moving forward to make sure we accomplish our mission within the community by expanding our student population to be able to meet the needs of more gifted students, supporting our new Stargate High School plan and making our kids smarter. Here are some of the key accomplishments achieved by the Board in the 2013-14 school year: · Obtained unanimous approval from the Adams 12 School Board for the renewal of our charter, the culmination of a team approach with administration and the Board and a very successful CSSI audit · Approved the Stargate High School, including calculated growth expansion plans to support its success · Defined a standard Principal evaluation tool utilizing state researched methods for clarity in performance reviews · Developed a comprehensive Board Calendar to continue to improve transparency and track action items In preparation for the 2014-15 school year, the Board will be working over the summer on the Strategic Plan, continuing planning with the administration on expansion plans and developing a plan for aligning board actions with committee activities. Please look to the http://charter.stargateschool.org/home website for meeting times and dates and minutes from our sessions. The Colorado Open Meeting Law allows for executive, or closed, sessions for governing boards in order to protect areas of confidentiality. These reasons include: buying or selling property, legal advice, confidential matters required by State or Federal Law, security issues, contract negotiations and strategies, personnel matters, considerations of documents protected from disclosure under the Open Records Act, and discussion of students. While discussions can be held during these closed sessions, decisions can only be made in an open forum. If you have a question for the board, please send an email to governance@stargateschool.org. Spring Elections: Kristen Kelly has been elected by the Stargate community to serve a 3-year term with the Governance Board of Directors. Per the Bylaws, she will be sworn in at the first meeting in July (scheduled for July 16 at 6:30 PM at Stargate). Details on the election results can be found here: http://charter.stargateschool.org/elections. Thank you to the Election committee for their effort in managing the election process. |
