News from the Board: "In case you missed it": The latest business meeting of the Board was held on on May 8, 2013. For those unable to attend, here are some highlights: · Three candidates currently running for the open Board seats, Lisa Griffin, Kathy Henson and current Board member Calley Herzog, attended the meeting and were given the opportunity to introduce themselves and talk about why they were running. · The Board approved an update to the 2013-2014 budget based on an increase in the per pupil revenue received from the state per the Public School Finance Act approval · The Board allocated fundraising funds for the purchase of a modular building that will vastly expand the space for the band and orchestra program · A discussion was held to begin the process of retaining a consultant to assist in the completion of the Charter School Support Initiative (CSSI) review of Stargate’s finance and governance as required by the District Charter Agreement. · Jan Kulmann introduced a draft of a new Board action calendar to help streamline activities for the Board and its committees while improving transparency. Upcoming Board Meetings: May 22nd: There will be no planning meeting on this date June 12th: Business Meeting at 6:00 PM at Stargate June 22nd:There will be no planning meeting on this date; however the Board will be meeting to complete its portion of the CSSI review this night.
Stargate Governance 101: Why did the Board change the head administrator title to Principal? Based on feedback received during the search for a “Head of School,” the Board agreed to adopt a more traditional title. In addition, Josh Cochran holds an administrator’s license, one of the key requirements of the position, and as such, Principal is a more fitting title. Most important of all, the students understand the title better.
Spring Elections: 2 Board Seats Open Elections are currently open and will close on Wednesday, May 15th at 4:00 PM! On May 6, the election committee distributed voting instruction through the Monday folders. They are in sealed envelopes with yellow ballot instruction inside.Each ballot instruction is unique and contains information you need to vote. The election committee is using a secure, online tool that contains information about the nominees and the actual ballot. Go to https://stargatesimplyvoting.com/and use your ballot instructions to vote.
