News from the Board:
"In case you missed it": The Board last met on February 18th where they received an update on projected enrollment for the 2015-2016 school year, got an overview of the high school schedule program and staff projections, and approved the 2015-2016 school calendar.  In addition, they received an overview of the financing plans for the school expansion with the finance committee, Stargate Property Corporation and the financial advisor, where they agreed to continue that work at a special meeting, were updated on the highlights of the Community Survey, discussed upcoming community relations activities, reviewed the Gala sponsorships and planned participation numbers, reviewed the proposed 2015-2016 and 5-year budget projections and agreed to set time aside for board member training with the committee chairs.

The Board also held a special working/planning session, followed by a brief business session, on Wednesday, February 25th to review financing plans for the school expansion project. After discussions with the Stargate Property Corporation, the Finance Committee Chair, the Business Manager, the Owner's Representative and the Financial Advisor, the board agreed to continue moving forward with the financial plans for a full K-12 campus.

Upcoming Board Meetings:
March 18th: Business Meeting at 6:30 PM at Stargate
April 8th:  State of the School Presentation
April 15th:  Business Meeting at 6:30 PM at Stargate

Stargate Governance 101:
Why are changes being proposed to the Accountability Committee in the updated Bylaws? According to state statute, Stargate is currently out of compliance with best practices regarding a true School Accountability Committee, or SAC.  The roles and responsibilities have been revised to include state requirements for a SAC.  The election provision was proposed for removal to encourage participation from all community members without the barrier of an election.  The SAC will continue to provide recommendations to the Board related to community feedback and will participate with the board in it's self-assessment.  In addition, the board will still be able to create an ad hoc grievance committee when required.  By state law, only the elected board has the fiduciary responsibility to the school and only it can set policy and make decisions.

Board Thank Yous:
A BIG thank you from the board to the Community Relations Committee for their work coordinating snacks for the teachers during the Middle School Conferences.
