News from the Board: "In case you missed it": The latest planning meeting of the Board was held on February 27th. For those were unable to attend, here are some highlights: We had a constructive discussion with both parents and staff concerning a proposed Specials program change for the 5th and 6th graders. As a result, the Acting Head of School will continue to work with the Specials teams to explore the best possible options to balance providing the students with a well rounded education with a focus on the continuous improvement of all specials programs. He will present those proposals at a later date. The Board also reviewed the 2013-2014 proposed budget with the finance committee, discussed the status on the KPIs that will be reviewed further at the next meeting, and talked about the potential use of Google Drive to manage documents on the new website.
Head of School Search Committee: The Head of School Search Committee met on March 5th. They are working to schedule interviews and have created standard interview questions for the candidates. Video conference interviews are planned to begin on March 12th. The ultimate goal of the committee is to recommend 3 or 4 candidates for the Board to consider. The Board of Directors is responsible for upholding the School's mission, creating a strategic vision and plan, establishing overall policy for the School, assuring financial stability and ensuring that the School has the appropriate resources to effectively implement the strategic plan and execute the day-to-day operations. They do this through continued training on governance best practices, managing the Head of School for implementation of the strategic plan, establishing and maintaining a budget through the Finance committee, facilitating fund-raising efforts through the Fundraising Committee, surveying the community through the Accountability Committee, encouraging community involvement through the Community Relations Committee, investigating grant opportunities through the Grant Committee, keeping a pulse on government actions through the Legislative Committee, and improving communication through the Website Committee.
