News from the Board: "In case you missed it": The Board last met on January 21st where they received an update on the school expansion, including a status update from the Stargate Property Corporation and a presentation from Mr. Cable as he continued his interview for the High School Principal position; were updated on the Community Survey participation; discussed the success of the 20th anniversary celebration; reviewed the quarterly financial report; approved the allocation of funds from the J. Irwin Grant for additional iPads and Chrome Books for use in classrooms; completed the mid-year review of Principal Josh Cochran; agreed on an updated version of the application for new Board and elected committee members; and discussed options for engaging the community to vote on changes to the Bylaws. Upcoming Board Meetings: February 18th: Business Meeting at 6:30 PM at Stargate March 18th: Business Meeting at 6:30 PM at Stargate Stargate Governance 101: Why does my vote matter? In order to make changes to certain sections of the Bylaws, we need at least 30% of our community to vote even if the agreement is in the majority of the voters. Our voter turnout is not usually that high. Not enough votes could mean that we lose an opportunity to be flexible in our strategic and responsible growth. The election committee will make it very easy and simple to cast your vote. The Board will communicate the proposed changes and hold information sessions so that you understand them before the vote. You'll need to be sure to cast your vote. Board Thank Yous: A BIG thank you from the board to Deb Demchuk for her efforts in securing media attention for our 20th Anniversary celebration. Our school was featured in several papers and on Thornton KTTV-8 (see the Stargate community webpage for the video). Another BIG thank you from the board to Ms. McLeod for her work securing a grant for Curiosita training. Our community, including staff and parents, will get an opportunity to learn methods for engaging our children's creativity and curiosity.  |
