News from the Board: Summary of Board Meeting Feb 17, 2016

Hello Stargate Community,

In a continuous approach to providing timely updates to the community on Board activities, we are sending this email blast instead of providing repeated updates in the Star News.

The Stargate Governance Board met on February 17th for their regular monthly business meeting. The full minutes will be posted once they are approved in March. Here are the highlights of what the Board accomplished at the February meeting:


  • Secondary School (grades 6-9) update from the High School Principal, Robert Cable, including:
    • Discussion on projected enrollment for next year
    • Overview of hiring needs as we grow to 10th grade
    • Preview of MAPS scores from last fall, and
    • Highlights of the excellent leadership and academic achievement of the students
  • Very thorough review and recommendation from the Lunch Committee
    • Tasked with reviewing options for the lunch program for next year
    • Gives the administration tools to plan for our new campus
  • 2016-2017 Stargate School Calendar approved, following the Adams 12 school calendar for school breaks (including moving Spring Break back to March)
  • Stargate Foundation overview on the campus construction, letting us know that the project is on schedule
  • Quarterly financial report from the Finance Committee, verifying that we are on track to meet our financial KPIs for this year
  • Website committee charter update approved as the continuation of committee alignment with the Board's strategic plans and goals
  • Outstanding fundraising dollars allocated to go towards items identified for the new campus that are not part of the construction project, focusing on the largest needs with the biggest impact for students, possibly including:
    • Shelf and cubby installations
    • Primary auditorium seats
    • Playground equipment
    • Gym floors
    • Gym equipment
    • Gym bleachers
    • Weight room equipment, or
    • Turf field installation
  • Review of options for required training for the Board

Our next Board meeting is scheduled for March 16th at 6:30 PM at Stargate. The focus areas for this meeting will be on the results of the community survey, the Board's self-assessment, kick off of the spring election process, and preparing for the State of the School.
